It's ... not entirely easy to answer that. The computers don't behave normally at all. [ They're haunted, Ludger. ] Case in point, the video I ended up pulling up was supposed to be a text file, but...
If I had to make a guess. Like us, perhaps. Someone who thought to record their demise? That, or maybe it was someone who got in over their head. [ Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. ] The quality was questionable, but the video opened with them screaming, the image of a monster in poor focus. It's damaged and corrupted, skips around a bit, but they end up futilely telling the monster to leave them alone. The monster advances on them. The clip ends.
'Asking' whatever's haunting that terminal— not the same as the one we contacted miss Kamiki on— brought the video back up, but skipped ahead to the point where there were only the sounds of someone presumably being eaten. That was the only file accessible on that computer; trying to get at anything else brought that same video back up.
It's not like the plants outside of the central area are thriving either, though. It kind of makes me wonder if all the mana is being pulled to one spot instead.
Maybe not thriving exactly, but there's still enough of them to reclaim some of the buildings here.
Almost makes you wonder what some of your spirit friends would make of this. How quickly and drastically the weather changes almost feels like going from one spirit clime to another in Rieze Maxia...
[ Except, you know, here it's just the one place. ]

[ someone was here that long? ]
What perspective were the files written from? Like, from someone like us? Or from-?

[ eaten, huh. ]
We haven't seen any wildlife around here besides the new building, right? Makes you wonder where the rest of it went.

It's pretty strange, isn't it? Not having some of that ambient noise in the background from things like birds or insects.

[ ugh ]
I know we didn't have much in Elympios, but even that was more than this. Does that make this place worse off than we were?

So if we take even that away... the state of things in Elympios was bad, but this place somehow manages to have us beat.
[ Incredible. ]
