[ he's getting nowhere and if he Doesn't Do Something Different, Ludger's going to start throwing hands. which is why he's back in the cafeteria, whipping up something from a half imagined idea. and he did spot a certain lady in the main eating area... ]
[It definitely is not working unless you know something I do not :nyafleck:
Maybe she was hoping there'd be something new in place, the same way some things always seem to snap back into order. Maybe the essay of passive-aggressive conch-related sticky notes gave her an idea. Who could say?]
Are you going to try feeding me squid this time? After the jellyfish incident, I wonder if it would be inappropriate?
[She does drift over, though, seemingly open to trying his food.]
[ :hehe: for no reason i think you should check that thread again
Ludger heads over, a bowl held in hand. it's not completely filled to the brim - there's a more tasteful arrangement of rice covered in pink and orange flowers in the center. to the side, a helping of pink pickled ginger, and to another side, a serving of red cabbage salad. ]
I needed a break from trying to hunt down whoever posted those medical records.
[ he nods at the pinned papers. ]
I thought this would be a good exercise, but I ran out of ideas for how to make the whole thing pink without adding any food coloring. So now, you get to taste the fruits of my experimentation.
Well, I wanted to know who it was mainly, but I also wanted to know where it came from - was it in one of the buildings, or did it get hacked from the library? If there was another place set up like this one... I'd want to find out more about it. Maybe there's more information about what happened to Jude.
[She gestures for Ludger to join her and waits to see if he has his own food, given that it's only polite to do so. Where's his sushi bowl? The chef should also enjoy some of the fruits of his own labor.]
Is that the person you know? [Her brow softens in concern.] Information seems to come piecemeal here, manifesting as we "need" it. [Which she doesn't seem to love, but it's more worrying when it's something relating to someone who shares a connection.] I believe Foxglove only treated people from his own home before coming here; the failure to help them was a catalyst for him coming here.
[ he's got. something? it's probably just a plain sushi bowl - no roses or color coordination for him. ]
Yeah, he's one of my best friends. So seeing his name was... a shock.
[ to put it lightly ]
I didn't know Fran had only treated people from his home - just that he'd treated five. And the numbers lined up, so...
[ he drums his fingers on the table, agitated. yeah, someone went tearing off to the alchemist lab after the records were posted. Cantarella might have even seen him heading off to do so. ]
[Cantarella slips a couple of her fish flowers into his bowl. It's not sneaky; he can easily catch her doing it as she listens to him and ruminates over her response. It's hard to think of Ludger being aggressive with anyone, but his words and the nature of his quick flight both suggest the initial meeting with Victor may have funneled all that surprise and worry into something she wouldn't expect from him.]
It sounds like you gave him an earful. [And maybe one he didn't deserve.] I'm certain he understands. Watching someone you know experience this...has to be stressful. I doubt whoever left those documents behind knew how they would be received, either.
[ ma'am???? but he watches as she adds a couple to his bowl, smiling a little, before swapping some of his own, plain slices into hers. ]
Logically, I get that. But... he didn't deserve the conclusions I jumped to - especially since he's been so kind.
[ which is why he needs to apologize ]
Jude is... one of the most trustworthy, reliable people I know. He was on the train with me at the beginning of everything - and he was there all the way to the end. He's going to do a lot of incredible things.
[ judging by the admiration in Ludger's voice, he clearly holds Jude in high regards. ]
Can't I share my meal? Sometimes therein lies the beauty.
[But she smiles, and she doesn't object to him trading slices of fish with her in the end. Cantarella takes a small bite, listening with her eyes as he speaks about Jude.]
Even reading those sparse notes, I could tell he is uniquely special. I wonder... "taken" was written instead of "deceased." What if you were able to reach him somehow, still, if the entity is the same?
[They have a connection already...could that make it easier? What if there's something unique to them to send through?]
If I could reach him... well, I'd introduce him to Fran, so they could research this whole thing together. And I'd definitely hover a lot - he's younger than the Jude I met.
[ he'll take a bite, thinking ]
... Honestly, I'm hoping "taken" just means "vanished". If someone else took him... or if it's a reference to the hands... I don't know what I'd do.
[Ludger looks serious, so Cantarella matches her energy. She steeples her fingers together and leans forward against her elbows, bracing herself as if there were a business deal under discussion.]
What an interesting question. Is there something you aren't asking?
[She'll let him sit with that question in response for a moment while her own answer conjures itself.]
I believe I must have immunity to the infection for a reason, all things being "put into place" as they were. I've also never liked to follow a path that tramples over others with no regard for their lives. This is a cycle I want to see broken permanently.
... How my life has been for a very long time already and will continue to be when I return to my home.
[Cantarella says this matter-of-factly, though her voice is soft with understanding. She knows that he is concerned about her, and there are parts of this plan that feel too self-important and full of hallucinatory grandeur to her, too.]
The Threnodian Leviathan whispers in the minds and dreams of every Fisalia, the head most of all, until they are eroded completely by its dark deception.
w3, thursday
Hey, Cantarella? Have you eaten yet?
no subject
No, I haven't yet. I usually cook for myself.
no subject
How do you feel about eating something I made?
[ he knows she's a little picky when it comes to food ]
If you don't like it, I'll make whatever you want, no questions asked.

No, it's a sushi bowl I thought about making for Elize and Leia once. Lots of salmon and tuna, if that appeals to you.
[ ... ]
Do you want squid? I haven't prepared any, so it's going to be pretty tough.
no subject
No, not at all. Just remembering when we first arrived here.
[Cantarella chuckles. She wonders if that same picture of them still exists somewhere on the wall.]
Why not? If you've extra. What's brought you into the kitchen?

[Cantarella has to admire the handcrafted fish flowers and the brightness of the dish itself before she can begin to eat.]
Maybe you should take more breaks. [Somewhat playfully.] But what were you looking for?

[ feed the glutton and the jellyfish... ]

Cantarella, can we talk for a second?
no subject
Of course, Ludger. I always have time for you.
